Monster Hunter - Winter!

This is my Monster Hunter character, Winter and his beloved pet Skippy the Ludroth. He is featured in the comic I Want to Be a Monster Hunter! by my sister who is also the one who drew this picture for me. Below is a brief (actually kind of long) character bio if you want to know more about Winter.

Name: Winter (last name). His birth name is unknown; the Elder of his village named him Winter due to the fact he found him abandon in the snow.

Age/Date of Birth: 19 (January 11)

Place of Birth: Winter was born in a village located in the Tundra. It was destroyed by a monster when he was only a few weeks old. He doesn't remember much, but when he does it's more like a feeling in his heart than a vision in his head. He doesn't remember what his birth parent's looked like. 

His adoptive parents lived in a tropical village by the sea, both of them used to be hunters as well which inspired Winter to set off and become a hunter himself.

Race/Ethnicity: Winter is an orphan, but his ethnicity differs from the others in his village. His parents are dark skinned  natives of the islands, while Winter is a pasty pale white boy. He would feel self conscious about this growing up but over time he's gotten over it. Although he still hates being singled out for being different regardless of the situation.

Sexuality: Winter is bi-sexual. However he's not very interested in forming romantic relationships or engaging in sexual interactions. He'd much rather make friends and hunt.

Education: Winter doesn't have much of an education, he lived off the land like the people in his village. Anything he knows comes from the words of his parents, the Village Elder, and experience; rather than books and lectures.

Social Class: Winter has always been about middle class. Both his parents are retired hunters and had quite a bit left in their savings to raise Winter and his older (adoptive) brother. They lived pretty comfortably but that meaning only getting the needs necessary to do so and not getting everything they wanted.

Religion: Winter has never been introduced to organized religion while growing up, and he finds the concept of it rather hard to grasp. Instead Winter believes all living things come from the Earth, and upon death reunite with it in spirit. Although this a much more casual belief for him, and it doesn't have anything to do with his sense of morality.

Politics: Winter believes and trusts in the Guild and Wyverians greatly. But he's ignorant to their political standing.

Physical Appearance: Quite fit. He has a 'swimmers build' from all his years of diving and fishing.

Height: 5'11"

Weight: 162lb, athletic swimmers build.

Hair: Dark rust color, medium length, choppy bangs.

Eyes: Light gray

Distinguishing Marks: Winter has a scar across his nose, formed when he was just a baby. Wounded when a monster destroyed his village and rubble fell on his face.

Make-Up: No

Clothing Style: Winter will be comfortable wearing most anything. When it comes to armor Winter will choose something more close-fitting.

Physical Health: Winter is average health with no physical conditions hindering him. Although he does have a unhealthy love for junk food. (fried kelbi shank on a stick! oh no!)


Mental and Emotional Attributes


Basic Personality: Winter is usually a friendly and understanding individual. He has a very empathetic nature and feels the absolute need to help anyone in need. He's very generous and caring, would give the shirt off his own back if it meant to help.

When facing a challenge, Winter can become very anxious and come to the fight or flight nature. Usually it will be flight. This frustrates him because he desperately wants to be brave and wants to be a strong fighter but he can easily become overwhelmed. So instead of fighting head on, Winter usually comes up with a different plan to work in his favor.

Despite this, Winter won't back down from an offer or a challenge. He wants to better himself and prove his worth. Most of his motivation comes from wanting to make his adoptive parents proud, and that he wants to find out what monster killed his birth parents.

Fears: Winter is terrified of failure, and being useless. Also afraid of clusters of holes. When he was diving to harpoon fish one day he came across a face of rock with many holes in it. Thinking he could get shellfish from them Winter stuck his arm in, but then a whole bunch of gross fish came swarming out of the holes in his face.

Goals:  To overcome his anxieties to become a better hunter. 

Desires: To become a famous hunter, and to find out more about his birth parents/village and to kill the monster that destroyed it.

Secrets: He keeps his sexuality a secret, and his fears. He wants to look brave to everyone (but he fails at it)

Regrets: Going separate ways from his brother.

Mental Health: Besides his fears and struggling self confidence-- Nothing too hindering
Personal/Family History

Parents/Guardians: Mom & Dad are still alive. Are retired hunters and part time fishers/merchants.

Siblings: One adoptive older brother who's location is currently unknown

Other Relationships: Winter is pretty close with his village Elder. He's friends with Inko and the Cheif.
Family History: Winter's parents were both hunters, they met through hunting and got married while hunting. They are hunters through-and-through. However when Winter's mother became pregnant with his brother Vash, they decided to settle down and retire to take care of their child and help the village with the fishing. After a year, the village Elder came back from an expedition with baby Winter swaddled in his arms. This is when Winter was adopted into their family.
Childhood: Winter had a rather nice childhood, besides learning early on he was adopted and that his real parents were most likely dead since his village was destroyed.

Adolescence: Winter has always been an honest and well behaved child, but going through puberty made him a bit rebellious where instead of doing his chores or working he would go swimming with the Epioth. Going through his teenage hood Winter would think about where he really came from a lot.



Occupation and Hobbies



Occupation: Winter was a fisherman, and a diver from his boyhood til the day he left home. He would use nets to catch fish on boats, or he would dive and use a harpoon to catch larger fish and shellfish. Currently he's a hunter, his specialty being a hammer.

Hobbies: Winter loves swimming, fishing and inventing things.

Organizations: Nope

Social Life: Winter's best friend was his older brother, but he's since lost contact with him. However he wishes to become closer friends with Inko because he can sense a deep hidden pain within her.

Alternative Lifestyles: Occasionally drink. Main diet consists of seafood and veggies.

Pets: At home he has a 3 legged Ludroth named Skippy.
